We were stuffed after finishing our entrees but we somehow (twist my arm) finished both desserts without any problem. ![]() I ordered the duck "medium" and it was cooked perfectly with crispy skin (not greasy which can by typical of duck.) This calamari was so very tender and flavorful! Our entrees: the Canadian duck breast and the North Carolina black grouper. ![]() Don't think of the garden variety, overly battered, rubbery squid you typically find in restaurants. The other app was the special of the evening: Asian-inspired calamari. We ordered two appetizers: roasted seafood "bouillabaisse" generously filled with perfectly cooked lobster, scallops and prawns. The red wine we ordered was out of stock but the restaurant served us an upgraded version but only charged us the lower price of the original bottle. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and were seated in a spacious booth with a view of the bustling kitchen. The furnishings were tasteful, neutral, and rustic but contemporary. ![]() When we we entered, my husband and I found ourselves in Restoration Hardware-like "barn". The exterior of the restaurant is unassuming without any signage. Never in my wildest dreams would I guess I could find such a high caliber restaurant tucked away in the North Carolina mountains! I must admit that my husband and I were skeptical as we were driving a winding road in sparse, bucolic surroundings headed to Artisanal, but we arrived to find an unexpected gem. ![]()
